Nannies, Governesses & Maternity Nurses

Career nannies, governesses, maternity nurses and newborn specialists for private families at home and travelling.

Nannies, Governesses & Maternity Nurses with Fabu Group: Antique writing desk and rocking horse in a warm panelled schoolroom

Overview

This is the most personal recruitment we undertake. A nanny holds the daily wellbeing, routine and development of the children; a governess adds a formal educational dimension through tutoring, curriculum support and liaison with schools; a maternity nurse brings expert, calm care through the earliest weeks of a baby's life.

We place childcare professionals with private families in London, the counties and internationally, whether that is sole-charge care, a rota team across several residences, or short-term newborn support. Warmth comes first, then experience, verified references and the practical judgement that keeps children safe, occupied and genuinely happy.

Roles We Recruit

  • Career nannies
  • Governesses
  • Maternity nurses
  • Newborn care specialists
  • Night nurses

  • Travelling with the family and maintaining routine away from home
  • Clear daily communication with parents and, where relevant, the household team

Working Arrangements

Sole-charge nannies commonly work around 50 to 60 hours across five days, often with agreed babysitting evenings. Live-in and live-out positions are both usual.

Rota patterns such as two weeks on and two weeks off are common in larger households and for travelling roles.

Maternity nurses are usually engaged on a temporary basis, frequently 24 hour or night-only care over six days, from a few weeks to several months.

Permanent, temporary, full-time and part-time arrangements are all available, and terms are agreed in writing before a placement begins.

Salary Guidance

As indicative guidance, experienced nannies in the UK broadly range from £40,000 to £65,000 gross per annum, with senior rota, travelling and governess roles frequently above this. Maternity nurses are more usually engaged at a daily rate, commonly £180 to £400 per day depending on experience and the level of care required.

These figures are indicative guidance only. Salaries are agreed according to the specific role, setting and responsibilities, and may vary with:

  • Location, both within the United Kingdom and internationally
  • Length and depth of relevant experience
  • Formal qualifications, training and languages
  • The scope of responsibilities and any team management
  • The size of the household, estate or organisation
